The summer sun, previously swallowed up by the remnants of august clouds, poked her head through the veil of September. The sun cast shadows in angles, brick walls burnt orange in the glow of the noon rays. And there you stood, a sharp contrast against the light- dark and moody. I embraced you as the mass of your body towered over me, and you laughed a low sweet laugh admitting to a hangover. I clicked my tongue against the roof of my mouth and pulled you into the light.

You had a habit of luring me into the dark, promise-filled air of Chicago nights. Nights of flowing champagne, pearly whites, disco balls…
